With our new apartment we enjoy not only larger space but also fantastic view. Instead of looking out to the windows of major insurance office we now enjoy green sights. 50 shades of green 🙂
Even in our former apartment we went out regularly, taking advantage of nearby parks and enjoying the fantastic views over Lac Leman. However after two months in our new place I realise that quick and easy access to green area (even if small) brings more advantages than I thought it could.
So far I came up with 5 ways green surroundings improves my life (and I am sure there will be more over the time):
1.Green environment reduces my stress
Every time I can, I walk through our little park, even if it means walking to the further bus stop. Instantly I feel like I can breath more freely and often even smile comes up (it is so good to smile for no reason!!).
2.Green environment improves my mental health
Going out there, sitting on a bench for a moment simply makes me feel better. My anxieties, worries, depression feels lighter. Green surroundings lifts my spirit up. (I might need much more green time though !!)
3.Green environment makes me more productive
You know it… there is time of the day, when even 3rd coffee doesn’t make the trick anymore. You are dull, start to have cravings for all sort of sweet stuff and only thing you want is to have a small nap. Every day, in the middle of the afternoon, I need to go pick up my daughter from school. Going through the little park and hanging out a bit on the way back gives me great kick and energy, so when I get back home I’m far more active that when I don’t get out at all.
4.Green environment is very important for my kids
My daughter is 4 years old. For the moment she has quite low expectations when it comes to going out. As long as she can run, jump, slide, have a stroll on her scooter, play hide and seek, she is thrilled. Previously we always had to get to the park in order to do all these.. now, we skip all the logistics!! We can run out of the house for a short play before lunch, right before it rains or just before bath and bed time. I love it! They love it (well, my little boy is 9 months only but he really enjoys getting out)!!
5.Green environment makes me feel privileged
Being in nature always makes me feel privileged. Privileged for living blessed life, privileged to be alive 🙂 Sitting on a terrace facing green while being still in town and so near to city centre is just another way to feel privileged. Privileged that we did not need to trade green environment for hours of commute, less time with kids and time wasted running between appointments. //disclaimer: we have quite low expectations, so I am talking here about minuscule park next to our building not a giant private garden 🙂 Trade offs there might weight differently 😉
Just looking at green nature relaxes my eyes so much!! Even on the photos 🙂
So take a moment and get outta there, dive into the green and get carried away even if only for few minutes… It will make you better than another cup of coffee!!
